About McAllen Metro Jobs
“Local working solutions, a fit for you in the McAllen area”
“After two months of employment gains, Texas employers reduce jobs” -TWC
This is the typical headline we are getting used to seeing:
Necessity is the mother of invention—or so the cliché goes, but it is true. It’s a story full of ironies, while working at not working, that is to say, while searching for jobs while in school, after school, after graduation we found that it was a job unto itself. The pay was miserable. If you were lucky to have unemployment benefits or some other way of making money and staying alive – survive – you are in luck, but if the few dollars in your pocket are all you have and it goes towards the expenses of an all-out job search you could find yourself in a bigger hole than when you started.
Looking for a job is hard and expensive. You have to become your own staffing agency, your own recruiter who does not have the same access to tools and supplies that someone else whom is sponsored does. Believe it or not the IRS, Uncle Sam, well he knows it’s expensive and lets you claim some things as tax write-offs.
Employment and Outplacement Agency Fees, Resume (typing, printing, and mailing copies of a resume), Travel and Transportation Expenses, Phone Calls. The one that can get you bad is the gas – it’s a lot of driving around if you are being traditional and visiting business and offices. Things add up. And if you have one of those days- the ones where no one is available get ready to do it all over again. In one week I have submitted 50 applications and gotten no callbacks. Wow! Yeah that is a lot and it is not because my resume is lacking it’s because many of the listings out there especially online are out of date or was renewed and a person was hired but the listing never pulled.
You are now embarking on a treacherous journey and you better be ready to take on all the odds stacked against you. And when you go and look at your local paper the job ads are slim, I know anorexia was in several years ago but this is not helping the job seeker. You know those large display ads that make it sounds like there is a career in sight for you and turn out to be an ad for a school, I thought this was the help wanted section – yeah they are not discrete.
And this is where McAllen Metro Jobs came to be—yeah we were tired of those problems and needed a way to make it easier for us to find the right job, the need is here and we are trying to find a way of alleviating that need. There should be no fall apart in the local job market.
“I was so tired of looking for a job; it gets harder when at each turn you have misleading.”
It doesn’t matter if you are a leader, employee, stay-at-home mom or dad, retiree, or student, your life is composed of systems that are yours to control — or not control. McAllen Metro Jobs aims to not only empower ourselves but also others who face the situations we were once in - it’s about regaining that control and making today work for you.
